Quilt around the World: 3rd International Block Swap

block_swapBuilding on the great success of our past community activities, we at Quilt around the World have started a new global patchwork project: the 3rd International Block Swap. This time, the motto is “In the Sun.”

Quilters around the world… are invited to design 9 patchwork blocks on the motto “In the Sun” and send them to us. All participants then will be grouped into international teams, within which the 9 blocks will be exchanged by our team.

The deadline for the finished blocks is May 31, 2016. You can find all details in the IBS3 download flyer or on our website.

From the President

I hope everyone has had a good summer. I know that our family spent much time enjoying the outdoors and the sunshine. This was the first year I successfully grew tomatoes and basil.

Our new sound system received its first use at our June meeting. We had some minor glitches requiring adjustments to minimize feedback. But voices are clear.

Those who attended the June meeting will remember the letter I read from a 1992 Newsletter. It seems like our first formal monthly meeting took place on Jan 20, 1987 but the founding members met to plan it all in the fall of 1986. The Guild is almost 39 years old!

As fall approaches on this, our collective minds are leaning to quilting hours in warm houses, with friends, or at retreats. We have 2 shows coming up – the Amica show on Oct 7th, spearheaded by Leslie Rutledge and a chance to show quilts you have already made and/or shown for a good cause. And our bi-annual Guild show in June 2016.

Welcome back.

Welcome back!

Fall is a time for getting back into our normal routines. With such a beautiful summer and all that great weather I am hoping you were able to get away to enjoy some down time with family and friends. Now it’s time to spend some time with your quilting friends.

I hope to see a lot of you at the September meeting. We are always delighted to see returning members and have new members join us. The registration fee for non-registered but returning guild members is $55.00 for the year. Only new members will be prorated to $27.50 for the remainder of the year.

We currently have 130 registered members and we had 70 members in attendance along with 4 guests at our June Guild meeting. Three of those guests were here for the Sue Spargo workshop which was to be held later that week. The door prizes were won by Carol Hill and Annette Wilson Blair.

Be sure to sign in and be wearing your nametag in order to claim your door prize, should your name be drawn. Nametags are available, if you forgot to bring yours, and are $1.00 each at the membership table.

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Membership Coordinator

Quilt Me a Story: The 2016 Quilt Show Challenge

All of us have favourite books. The challenge this year is to make a small quilt that represents your favorite book. It could be a book you have read for yourself or a book you read to a child (perhaps a 100 times). Alternately, you could choose a book that you know would make a great challenge quilt. You do not have to take a pledge stating that the book really is one of your favourites!

The goal is to get very imaginative and express yourself. Be whimsical, be serious, sign up and make a small quilt for the challenge.

We want to have a great challenge display. This challenge is not a fund raiser. The entry fee will cover minor costs and the rest will go to fabulous prizes. You get a chance to win and you keep your quilt.

The cost is $4.00 per entry. You can enter more than one quilt; you can enter up to 3 quilts. They will be available at the September and October meetings at the Challenge table. Bring your Toonies. More details will be announced at the meeting.

PS: A reminder that quilts you are planning to register for the June 2016 show cannot be hung in another show in BC within the 12 month period before our show.
