Community Quilts

Thank you for the support you are giving to Community Quilts. All of the people receiving your quilts are very glad and grateful to have them. If you need batting to finish a quilt or a kit to make another one, please call me or anyone on the committee.

I hope you are able to attend our workshop on March 8th and 9th with the set up happening on March 7th.

We also need two volunteers to look after the Quilt Raffle for the 2014 Quilt Show. Again, the instruction and records book is all set up. We may even have 2 quilts for you to use, if you feel that the task of making quilts would be too much to handle.

Community Quilts Needs a Treasurer

Hope you had a happy Halloween!

We badly need a volunteer to step forward to be our treasurer. Please let me know if you are willing. The books are very well set up and maintained by Edna Simpson who would help you settle into the task. Most of the task can be completed on your own time at home.

We also need two volunteers to look after the Quilt Raffle for the 2014 Quilt Show. Again, the instruction and records book is all set up. We may even have 2 quilts for you to use, if you feel that the task of making quits would be too much to handle.

See you at the meeting on November 27th

Community Quilts Donations

We have received a very large donation of completed quilts from Gloria Nidzgorski, a friend of Betty Clarke’s. Gloria has sold her house and is going on the road and had lots of completed quilts. They are all sizes and types.

We have put 30 of them into Community quilts directly and have reserved one for possibly using as a raffle quilt for the Guild and one as a quilt to give away for a fund raiser for one of the organizations we normally contribute to. There were also 8 placemats, 3 tea cozies, a crocheted baby blanket, and 2 pillow covers. There were also 2 Christmas quilts and seven assorted quilts we hope to sell to raise money for the Guild.

We also received 16 mini baby quilts for the Women’s Hospital from Trudy Jaskela. Wonderful donations! I am sure you will agree.

Community Quilts Update

How would you like to practice your machine quilting on some else’s quilt? You can do that by quilting a Community quilt. We have quite a few quilts, of different sizes that need quilting. We will bring some to the meeting on April 24th.

If you need batting for a quilt you are working on please call Edna Simpson with the size of the piece you want and she will bring it to the meeting.

See you there.

Raffle Quilts

The raffle quilts are complete and look super!

For the March meeting there will be raffle tickets for all of us to buy so we can sell them to our family and friends. We will also have pictures of the quilts and pictures on the website. As we discussed and agreed at the February meeting, the tickets will be packaged 15 in a pack and will cost $25. All of the tickets must be sold at 3 for $5. As we have done previously, the members buy the books of tickets up front for $25, sell the tickets (this money is yours) and return the stubs for the draw. We keep track of member names with the ticket packs to be sure the stubs all get returned for the big draw at the end of the show. In case you were not at the meeting, the BC Gaming people have become strict about accounting for all ticket sales at each price. They require us to print one series of tickets selling for $2 each and another for the 3 for $5 and keep track of the sales separately. It is much more straight forward to sell the 3 for $5 packs within our guild than to try to mix and match the different series. We will print a small number of $2 tickets to sell at the guilds we visit and at the show. From our previous raffle experience we found the majority of people bought the 3 for $5 tickets within the guild and also at other guilds and at the show. We can see what the demand is for the $2 tickets and decide if it is even worthwhile printing any for next time around.

We need volunteers to help sell our raffle tickets at other guild meetings in April and May. It is interesting to attend the meeting of another guild and we always get a friendly welcome. We also need people to help sell tickets at Lions Gate Hospital in May. There will be a sign-up list at the next meeting. See you at the meeting!

Community Quilts

Thank you for all the efforts you gave to the Community Quilts Workshop. The committee was so pleased to see the great attendance and enthusiasm from you. Some were able to give the whole 3 days which included the set up and preparation day and others came for 1 or 2 days. Some of those who were not able to stay came to pick up something to take home. Most who stayed also took something to work on at home. It was a fun time and some of our new members participated and got to know others in the Guild.

About half of the quilts that we will need to distribute were completed and from the feedback we were hearing the other half will be done in time for the Spring distribution. We also have kits prepared for giving out during the year as well as many quilts layered for quilting. Thank you again for the great support you gave to Community Quilts.

Community Quilts Workshop

Come join us at our annual Community Quilts Workshop:

When: Friday March 2, 9:30am -4pm and Saturday, March 3, 9:30am -3pm
Where: St Andrews & St Stephen’s Church (2641 Chesterfield Avenue, North Vancouver)

Volunteers are needed to help set up on Thursday (9:30am-4pm) and do some cutting so that people can sew on Friday and Saturday. Also needed is a helper to take the sandwich orders from the people who would rather not bring a lunch on Friday and Saturday, as well as someone to make coffee and tea on both days.

We supply quilts to the Hospitals, and shelters on the North Shore. Working on a quilt in this workshop allows you to work without the costs of fabric, since we supply the fabric and the patterns, and to practice quilting. You also get a chance to meet other guild members and have all the help you need to learn what you need to know. If you like to cook, we would love to taste your baking.

Community Quilts Labour of Love

The babies and their families love these special quilts.”
