In January, we welcomed Barb Mortell as she shared her remarkable journey as a textile artist and her relationship with colour. Starting the trunk show was a mini show-and-tell with Betty Clarke, Ellie Stockner, Marsha MacKay, and our out-going president, Bena Luxton, showing quilts they had done at Barb’s colour classes.
Below is what Barb calls her ‘pivotal’ quilt, done in a class taught by Roberta Horton in the Gee’s Bend style; the other, a more recent quilt. Do you remember which is which?
I loved all of Barb’s quilts, but especially adored these two log cabin quilts with their playful use of colour, using both solids and prints.
