COPS Days

Join us at our next COPS Day on February 6. Bring your project(s), a plate of sweet or savoury food to share, and spend the day with your fellow quilters. It’s always a fun, productive time.

WHERE:  Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Blvd, North Vancouver

If the CopsDay goes ahead, drop-ins will be welcome. If you are not able to come to the guild meeting and would like to sign up for a particular CopsDay, you can mail a cheque for $15, payable to Lions Gate Quilters Guild (or LGQG).

COPS Sign-up

At the past few COPS Days, we have not had enough participants to cover the costs, therefore starting with the November COPS Day, sign up will now be required at the guild meetings. This will be similar to workshops, where you will sign up and pay ahead of time. If less than 15 people have signed up by the end of the meeting before the COPS Day, then it will be cancelled. If 15 or more have signed up then the COPS Day will go ahead and drop-ins will be welcome. If you are not able to come to the guild meeting and would like to sign up for a particular COPS Day, you can mail me a cheque for $15, payable to Lions Gate Quilters Guild (or LGQG). If you pay for a COPS day and are unable to make it, I can only refund your money if enough people show up. Many thanks to all the ‘regulars’ who show up most of the time! It’s a very fun day, so if you haven’t come before please drop in. You don’t have to stay all day, you can come and go whenever you wish.

Thanks,
Marsha MacKay

Summer COPS Days

I had a few requests at the June Cops day for a summer Cops day in Lions Bay. So I have booked the Lions Bay village hall for Saturday July 25th from 9 to 5. The cost will only be $10 plus the usual potluck lunch/snacks. The only catch is that I will be needing a minimum of 10 people to commit and pay me before June 30. You can pay me or Dianne at the June 23rd guild meeting or mail me a cheque payable to LGQG.

Valentine COPS… Loving It

A huge thanks has to go to Marsha and Dianne for the effort that went into organizing this. I think all of us were surprised by how much fun we had making the fascinators, and every single one really was an amazing work of art. We all had such a great day – I think there were 23 of us in total, so it was a great turn out. However, I know I might not be alone in spending way too much time “socializing’ and not enough time actually quilting!

Summer COPS Days

Looking for a chance to get some quilting done this summer, in good company? Check out our summer COPS days on July 20 and August 24. It’s a great place to layer your quilts and have plenty of space to quilt them. (Remember, less than 1 year until the next quilt show …)

Location: 1058 Ridgewood Drive, North Vancouver (St. Catherine’s Church)
Cost: $10, plus a plate of sweet or savoury goods.

March COPS Day & Cathedral Window Demo

COPS Day for March is coming quickly … March 10 @ St. Catherine’s Church (1058 Ridgewood Dr.), 9:30-4:30. Judith Pilley has kindly offered to demonstrate her Cathedral Windows quilt work; she will guide you through the creation of a small sampler. Judith writes:

“This is a very old fashioned and traditional design that looks a lot harder that it really is. Piecing of the blocks can be done by assembly line style on your machine and set aside for hand sewing at your leisure. It can become a very portable on the go project for those who love to hand sew.”

If you wish to participate, you’ll need:

  • Your sewing machine
  • Thread to match your background fabric
  • Hand quilting needle and thimble
  • 16 7” squares of background fabric – traditionally a muslin
  • 24 2” squares of assorted coordinated fabrics for the windows

As always, the price of admission is a sweet or savory dish to share, and $10. See you there!

COPS Day this Saturday

For those of you unfamiliar with the acronym, COPS stands for Creative Ongoing Projects Session (or so I’m told). In short, it’s a great opportunity to spend the day (or whatever part of the day you can spare) among friends, making progress on an ongoing project or starting a new one. Bring a project or two to work on, a plate of goodies (sweet or savoury) to share, and $10 for the amenities. Laughter, advice, and encouragement, as always, are freely shared.

When: Saturday, Sept. 17, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Where: St. Catherine’s Church (1058 Ridgewood Drive)
