Community Quilts

Thank you to everyone working on a quilt for us. We will be thanking our hard working committee at the May meeting and showing all newly received quilts for distribution by the summer. Quilts shown last month have gone to Lionsgate hospital to brighten up the exercise room! Evergreen Care Center  and Kiwanis care Center. We will also be hanging a few at the quilt show so please keep them coming.

2016 Raffle Quilts

Hope you are doing well in selling Raffle Quilt tickets and promoting our upcoming Show!

Again in April, we will have books of raffle tickets for Guild member to buy, for advance sales to your family and friends.

Tickets will be sold in books of 15 tickets, at a cost of $25.00.  The ticket price is 3 tickets for $5.00.  So that means you only have to sell your book of 15 tickets to 5 individuals (3 tickets for $5.00) and your book is complete!

As done in previous years, the member buys the book of tickets up front for $25.00, sells the tickets (now this money is yours) and returns the stubs for the draw.  We will keep track of the members name and the ticket books.

Please return your completed book of stubs to the Raffle Quilt Committee at our monthly meetings.  Please ensure all stubs are returned to the Raffle Quilt Committee for the draw, by the end of show to ensure all tickets are entered into the draw on June 11.

In May and/or June, we will be selling Raffle tickets at Lion’s Gate Hospital.  We are looking for some Guild members to assist us.   Please sign up at the Raffle Quilt table if you can help, or e-mail one of us personally!

Remember, all proceeds from the sale of the Raffle tickets goes to our Community Quilts Program.

So remember to bring either some cash or personal cheque to purchase your raffle tickets!!  Thanking you in advance.

Community Quilt Days

community
Anita showing some of the Community Quilts at the January show and tell. Note the detailed quilting on the insert, along with white ties.

Please make time to help us help others, make new friends as you make up a kit or a quilt at our quilt days. Come for an hour or a day—all help appreciated. We supply patterns, fabric and batting. Tables to layer quilts, mats for cutting. Machines brought in may be left overnight as rooms are locked. Anne Read has agreed to take orders for sandwiches but you need to be at the church before 10 on Friday and Saturday to order. If you like to bake I am sure your fellow quilters would enjoy your efforts.

If you are able to help with set up, take down or kitchen to help with tea and coffee, please speak to me at the February meeting or send an email to: communityquilts@lionsgatequiltersguild.com

Thank You

A big thank you to the Lion’s Gate quilt guild members for their contribution of quilts to the groups home for teen girls. Included is a picture of the Burnaby Girls U17 Soccer team who supported the home with Santa sacks for each of the group home residents with the quilts donated. The quilts are going to be a beautiful, warm and loving part of the girls’ Christmas this year. I ended up getting 11quilts donated through mostly Guild members. This will give the girls in the home right now a quilt plus the three new girls who are moving in in January a welcome gift. Plus an extra for anyone who moves in during the year. Thank you so much your generous gift of love.

Community Quilts

The beautiful baby quilts were delivered December 8th with many thanks. I have received requests from NS Community Services for a couple of larger quilts for English lessons. They would apparently sit on the quilts on the floor and it makes the group gather round in the spaces they get for free. Said we would add them to our list of requests.

Please mark your calendars for the March Community Quilt Days at St. Andrews St. Stephens church Thursday March 3 to Saturday March 5. All help appreciated — and this is a great way to meet other members of our guild. Looking forward to seeing you.

Above: Just some of the many, many community quilts shown at the November 2015 guild meeting. Quilts came and went so quickly, most photos were a blur.

Thank You from Lions Gate Hospital

Anita and Karen,

community4I cannot thank you and the guild enough for your generous gift of quilts to our Perinatal Program at LGH.

Your photo will be on the VCH social media page by early next week. I hope you have access to the VCH Facebook page. I have requested that they include the guilds web page address. Hopefully that will solicit some new members for your guild!

I love the photo. My only regret is that I didn’t put the HUGE pile of the guild’s quilts in front of you. We have decided that on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Years Eve and New Years Day, we will present the babies born with one of your beautifully crafted quilts.

We have saved some treasured quilts you have given us for gifting to the families of our very special stillborn babies. We know that the quilts help those families in their journey of grief and healing.

We thank you again for your guilds generous and kind gift to all of our babies at LGH. It is a community partnership that is highly valued.

Yours sincerely,
Kelly-Ann Haslauer

Community Quilts

Hope everyone who did a Christmas baby quilt remembers them for our December delivery to Lions Gate NICU. The thank you cards and letters pictured should make everyone feel good. I have had a request for more quilts for Turning point so will send off a couple we have. Community Quilt Days are set for 2016 they are March 3, 4, and 5. Please make plans to join us as much as you are able.

Community Quilts: Bring Your Christmas Quilts

Requests keep coming for quilts for babies young girls and older adults, so I will be bringing more quilt kits to our next meeting.

I am also hoping some of you have a Christmas baby quilt for the donation we make to Special care nursery at Lions Gate at the beginning of December. We will be showing them at the November meeting.

A hollowing Halloween to all. Hope to see you at the meeting.
