2016 Quilt Show

A huge thank you to the members who continued to register quilts between the meeting and the 31st of March. We have lots of quilts registered, Barb Brawn has seen all of the photos and says the show will be amazing!

Info from Committee Members:

Barb Brawn – Registration

  • 235 quilts have been registered!  (and a few more coming in the mail)
  • at the April & May meetings, I will have a printed list of quilts registered so you can check your quilt names, etc.  Really need to keep track of this info for making your quilt label.
  • if you need to withdraw a quilt, please let me (BARBARA BRAWN) know!  I need to know for quilt drop-off in June.  I will forward the info to the appropriate people on the committee executive.
  • any questions about hanging your quilt should be addressed to Leslie Forbes.
  • many thanks to all that helped with in-person registration.
  • I will be looking for more volunteers for quilt drop-off and pick-up at the next two meetings.

Carol and Leslie – Hanging

The guild’s stocks of dowels will be available, at the APRIL meeting only, on a first come first served basis. Be sure to measure your quilt so you know what length of dowel you require – remember only quilts 48” or less in width need a dowel.  There will also be assistance available to cut dowels (your own or one obtained from the guild) and insert screw hooks for those of you who require it.  Please be sure to arrive early to the meeting if you want to take advantage of this service.

Krista – Boutique

Are you busy making items to sell in our show boutique? I hope so! LGQG is well known for our incredible show AND the quality of goods made by our talented members. Every show we are able to stock a beautiful boutique and I look forward to doing the same this June.  Please have a read of the boutique rules (no food items, please!) and fill out your inventory sheets PRIOR to delivering your goods at the same time you deliver your quilts for the show. Both sheets are posted on the QUILT SHOWS page of our website. Here’s a quick link to the inventory sheet:

Every item you deliver for sale must have a price tag attached. The easiest way to do this is use tiny safety pins and string tags (stickers often fall off). Your set your own prices.  I will bring some string tags and pins to the next meetings for anyone having difficulty sourcing these.
Here are some suggestions for you enthusiastic makers: knit dish cloths, knit baby clothes, pin cushions, stuffed toys, place mats, napkin sets, seasonal table runners/wall hangings, baby quilts, tote bags, needle books, zipper pouches, drawstring bags (think reusable gift bags for birthday/Christmas), quilting related jewelry, photo greeting cards, scissor keepers, bookmarks, wallets/purses, notion holders for mugs, notebook covers, tea cozies, tea wallets, make-up kits, crayon/coloured pencil/marker rolls.
If you have display ideas (baskets, boxes, shelves, quilt rack) let me know. We have some wooden boxes, but if you are making small things, a container to keep them nicely together would help out.
Please contact me if you have any questions krista.hennebury@shaw.ca

Vicki – Volunteers

Our show is fast approaching!! I have most of your volunteer forms and will be collating them this month. If you have missed handing yours in, please just call or email me shequilts@hotmail.com with your availability and I will slot you in.

If you have already given me your form, a huge thank you for making my job so much easier. If your circumstances have changed since you have handed in your form, just let me know and we can work something out I will have each volunteer’s assignments ready to give out at the May meeting. If you are unable to attend, please ask a friend to pick yours up for you. This saves me many phone/emails after the meeting, thanks!

Karen – Education

We are looking for members to demo techniques if you have a skill that you would like to share at the show please call or see me or Helen at the meeting.

Linda Heese – Publicity

The lawn signs will be available for pick-up at both the April and May meetings (in case some people will be away in May).  The signs should go up on May 26 and be taken down Saturday after the show or on Sunday.

Please place as many signs as possible on your lawn and on the lawns of family and friends.  We have permission to post signs at specific places in North and West Van but these places are very restricted.  We need to see lots of signs up at the end of May!

Our large banners will be on the Delbrook Park fence and on the Harry Jerome overpass.

The show posters and bookmarks will also be available at both meetings.  Spread the show info as far and wide as possible.  Emails are going out now to the other guilds on our list, also to quilt shops – plus posters to the Vancouver shops in late May.  Show information is also going to senior centres, North Shore lodges and schools with Home Economics programs.

At the end of May we need to have posters on bulletin boards everywhere – libraries, rec centres, coffee shops – please think of good locations and help get posters up.

As always my thanks to my committee for their hard work and support and to you for creating the beautiful quilts that make our show so wonderful.

Just keep quilting!
