Our February meeting featured Cathy Miller, the singing quilter, and her husband John Bunge. Toe tapping ensued. In addition to the fun and very lively music, Cathy brought a selection of her quilts, many done on the road while travelling to their singing engagements, including one aptly named ‘Insanity’, made of quarter-inch hexagons. God help me, but I just had to count the stitches. Between eight and ten per edge. Ouch. Taking the stage with her as a memory prompt to the words of one song was the ‘Star and Plume Quilt’, the names of the 48 blocks telling the oft-violent story of Sunbonnet Sue and her intruder turned suitor. The sampler quilt proved so popular that Cathy re-drafted it as a block-of-the-month.
