From the President

For those of you who could not make it to our September meeting you missed an interesting and informative trunk show given by one of our newer members, Shirley Prakke. Her trunk show was titled “My Journey” and she talked about her own life journey and then her quilting journey. There was much interest and enthusiasm for some possible workshops in the future focused on Shirley’s African Mola applique technique. It was a pleasure to just sit and listen to Shirley’s lovely South African accent and of course stare in awe at her work.

Everyone still has a chance to show off her/his work at the Quilt Exhibit to be held at the West Vancouver Memorial Library from January 14 until March 10, 2015. Krista Hennebury and Carol Piercy have agreed to coordinate this exhibit and all of the information is in our September Newsletter. The most important date is December 1st at which time you need to commit.

While we are on the subject of showing off quilts Dianne Ritter has kindly agreed to Chair our Quilt Show 2016 which has already been booked for 2016 at the Capilano Sportsplex building. Stay tuned and perhaps get started on that project you have always wanted to do or try or explore or have imagined doing. You have seen the facility and so now we can imagine how absolutely wonderful all of our quilts are going to look in that venue in a couple of years.

The end of the year is fast approaching and our Treasurer is starting to think about closing the books on 2014. If you have spent money on guild related activities and need to be reimbursed please submit an Expense Submission Form. I will have some copies of that form with me at the next two guild meetings or you can email me for a copy. Suzanne will probably also have some forms with her at the next two meetings.

We are having an “As Good as New” Sale for our November program and because of that we will not be having the usual FREE TABLE set up this month. Save those dear items and bring them to the sale in November and earn a little money. Please contact Genevieve to book a table. Our Program Committee has been hard at work planning some interesting, informative and of course entertaining programs. I think they have scheduled almost all of our programs until June. Well done ladies!! I think all of us should be making an effort to thank Genevieve Tobin, Rita Douglas and Marina Green for all of their time and effort on our behalf. Pat them on the back the next time you are talking to them, maybe even a hug with your thank you. And don’t forget to give them feedback and/or your suggestions for future programs.

Our next meeting is on the 28th of October. Don’t forget your name tag, (necessary to win the door prize), your mug, cash for our 50/50 draw and perhaps for some overdue library books, your cheque book for workshop registration, any left over Thanksgiving goodies in your fridge or birthday celebrations sweets, your Show and Tell and your smiling faces. Oooh, I almost forgot, money to shop with. Our October Program brings us Carola Russell from her shop on the Sunshine Coast and she is bringing “stuff”.

Happy Quilting,
Betty
