From the President

I said, “After the Quilt Show I must clean up, tidy and reorganize my sewing room”. Then my friend said, ” After the Quilt Show I am going to dig out my black and white quilt and start working on that again “. How many of us have said those words lately, “after the Quilt Show”? And now it is here. Our Quilt Show is but a lovely memory. What a wonderful effort we have all made to create and present this splendid showcase for our craft. Well done everyone!! At our June meeting we will have another opportunity to take a look at the award winning quilts. It will be a meeting to have fun, socialize and take some time to thank all of those members who gave some extra energy and time toward the success of our Quilt Show. We will be recognizing the work of the Quilt Show Committee and the Raffle Quilt Committee while nibbling on a sweet or two and sipping a cup of tea or coffee. We are going to celebrate a wonderful accomplishment, our Album of Quilts Show 2012.

In March and April of this year two quilters passed away; one was a member of our guild and the other was an active participant at COPS days. While we are celebrating our quilting community during our June meeting I would like to invite anyone who knew Pat Ingram or Lesley Philbrick to come to the mike and share a few thoughts about these ladies. Please contact me if you would like this opportunity.

At the May meeting we were so fortunate to see a hundred plus community quilts and we acknowledged the work done by our Community Quilts Committee who are: Rosalind Knight, Edna Simpson, Anne Read, Brenda Sangster, Louise Bovet and Karen Widdes (honourary member). Next year the Parade of Community Quilts will be held during our June meeting so we will be able to take much more time to admire our work.

Vivian Kapusta also gave a slide show presentation of the Together Show that was held in La Conner, Washington recently. Thank you Vivian.

COPS days on Saturday July 7th and Saturday Aug. 18th will be held at the Lions Bay hall from 9:30 until 9:00, a mini retreat, if you like. I dropped in on our gals on June 2nd and felt a wonderful sense of comraderie. Of course, some were very intent on their quilting projects because they had very little time until the Quilt Show deadline.

A reminder that our next meeting is on June 26th which is the 4th Tuesday of the month and our last meeting until September 25th. I hope you all enjoy the next few months to rest, quilt, or maybe even garden. I think there are a lot of quilters out there who really enjoy being in their garden. Have a lovely summer everyone but I shall see you all very soon at the June meeting. I think our Program Committee is already thinking “Hallowe’en”. Please remember to return all of your library books, bring a mug, wear your nametag along with a smile and bring Show and Tell items. Workshops is still registering for courses so bring your cheque book or cash; they accept both. Our 50/50 lottery tickets will also be on sale. And, if you are baking up a storm for some occasion or another near the time of our meeting please bring along a plate of “goodies”. We always like to taste members’ baking which will supplement the Program committee’s purchases for our June social.

Happy Quilting,
Betty
